Young Defenders Worth Transferring Over to Your Team

With the Summer transfer window underway, and the Wold Cup tournament looming, during which to disrupt all transfers, there is a list of young players in the different major leagues who demand further inspection. These players are all capable of starting for top teams throughout the world.

Serge Aurier

Team: Toulouse FC
Date of birth: 24.12.1992
Place of birth: Ouragahio
Age: 21
Height: 1,75
Nationality: Cote d'Ivoire
Position: Defence - Right-Back
Foot: Right
Market value: 6.500.000

Last week, Aurier was caught on camera telling a fan he was probably moving to Arsenal. With 31 year old French International Bacary Sagna leaving his post this summer, the right back spot is up for grabs. Aurier would compete with Carl Jenkinson for the start. In the past season, Aurier was contributed 6 goals and 6 assists, putting up statistics that would impress Leighton Baines.
Daniel Carvajal Ramos
Team: Real Madrid CF
Date of birth: 11.01.1992
Place of birth: Leganés
Age: 22
Height: 1,73
Nationality: Spain
Position: Defence - Right-Back
Foot: Right
Market value: 12.000.000

Carvajal is not the man that Madrid expected. At 22 he has the positional sense of a younger player, if that is possible. But he also has the pedigree of playing at Real Madrid. One might remember that Marcelo struggled upon his arrival at Madrid, but developed into one of the best side backs in the current game. Alternatively, Carvajal could develop into another Drenthe.

Mattia De Sciglio
Team: AC Milan
Date of birth: 20.10.1992
Place of birth: Milano
Age: 21
Height: 1,83
Nationality: Italy
Position: Defence - Right-Back
Foot: Right
Market value: 12.000.000

De Sciglio put his skills on display to retain a position for the Italian national team in their match recently against Ireland. Italy's manager, Prandelli, sat most of his starters and evaluated his prospects. While De Sciglio would likely not feature much in the World Cup, he is going, and this makes any player look more attractive on the transfer market. One manager who many be interested in De Sciglio is Ancelotti, at Madrid.

Lucas Digne
Team: Paris Saint Germain FC
Date of birth: 20.07.1993
Place of birth: Meaux
Age: 20
Height: 1,78
Nationality: France
Position: Defence - Left-Back
Foot: Left
Market value: 10.000.000

When UEFA slammed PSG with a Financial Fair Play punishment, the immediate reaction from actual football fans (as opposed to the small group of actual PSG fans that existed before they got oil money) was salivation. The prospect of a fire sale eminent, certain young players are now touted for the exit. And this sale seems more likely with the large chunk of money spent to acquire sideshow defender David Luiz. Digne made the cut-off for the 23 man squad flying over to Brazil for the World Cup, and there is a definitely possibility that he will play over Patrice Evra. However, since moving to PSG from LOSC a year ago, his value has not moved, and his selection during matches has been dependent more on Maxwell than on Digne himself. Digne has the tools to develop in any large team, but he needs a team ready to start him every game. That team right now might be in Italy or England.

Marquinhos
Team: Paris Saint-Germain FC
Date of birth: 14.05.1994
Place of birth: São Paulo
Age: 19
Height: 1,83
Nationality: Brazil, Portugal
Position: Defence - Centre Back
Foot: Right
Market value: 25.000.000

Marquinhos moved from AS Roma a season ago for 35M. At Roma his positional sense was extraordinary, and he developed a partnership with Castan that was so impressive that PSG threw out a bid large enough to scare away rival suitors, Barcelona. Now, with the signing of sideshow David Luiz, who has displayed extremely dubious positional sense, on a consistent basis, PSG are rumored to be testing the market with Marquinhos. However, their price will need to reflect Marquinhos's value, which is closer to 22M.

Matija Nastasic
Team: Manchester City
Date of birth: 28.03.1993
Place of birth: Valjevo
Age: 20
Height: 1,87
Nationality: Serbia
Position: Defence - Centre Back
Foot: Left
Market value: 21.000.000

No one knows why Nastasic was injured for much of last season, except for Pellegrini and Nastasic. But during the course of that mysterious injury, Demichelis cemented his starting role on the back line, and helped Man City achieve a league title. Nastasic was good enough to earn the starting role from the beginning of the season, and is only 20. Chances are that Man City will try to retain him, despite being hit with a Financial Fair Play punishment equal to that of PSG's. The right number will prise any player from Man City at the moment, however, and we could see suitors asking about Nastasic's injury, and whether it was real, or imagined.

Luke Shaw
Team: FC Southampton
Date of birth: 12.07.1995
Place of birth: Kingston upon Thames
Age: 18
Height: 1,85
Nationality: England
Position: Defence - Left-Back
Foot: left
Market value: 13.000.000

He's definitely going to transfer during this summer window. Everyone of value at Soton is leaving this summer. Ricky Lambert already left. Southampton have already tagged the prices for Shaw and Adam Lallana at 37M a piece. And while I would personally focus on signing Dejan Lovren over Shaw, there is a distinct value to Shaw in that he is English. English players who are good are worth their weight in marketing gold. Dejan Lovren was the best talent on that squad, but he doesn't have the right nationality to attract audiences in England. Shaw, on the other hand, has 18 and life to go, and could very well be the next Cashley Cole.

Samuel Umtiti
Team: Olympique Lyon
Date of birth: 14.11.1993
Place of birth: Yaoundé
Age: 20
Height: 1,81
Nationality: France, Cameroon
Position: Defence - Centre Back
Foot: Left
Market value: 8.000.000

Umtiti, at age 20, has filled in the hole left by Dejan Lovren at Lyon. Over the past season, he has appeared in 26 matches for over 2400 minutes.

Kurt Zouma
Team: AS Saint-Étienne
Date of birth: 27.10.1994
Place of birth: Lyon
Age: 19
Height: 1,87
Nationality: France, Central African Republic
Position: Defence - Centre Back
Foot: right
Market value: 10.000.000

Zouma will most likely stay with Chelsea, even though he has never had to wear that shirt. He has been able to remain in the green of Saint-Étienne for his career. What Zouma would bring to Chelsea, or any other team, is aerial superiority. Zouma has won around 77% of his aerial challenges to clear balls out of his area. For comparison sake, Terry and Cahill do not come close to that 77% figure. David Luiz was hilariously far behind it (not even sure Luiz knows how to play defense, at all).

Players Unlikely to Move Based on Value
The following players are young and excellent, but will not likely be moving anywhere this summer. Varane is definitely a staple of Madrid's future. Azpilicueta seized the starting role at Chelsea from (C)Ashley "Possibly Greatest All Time" Cole. And Phil Jones is at Man Utd, starting, and unlikely to move while they rebuild.

César Azpilicueta Tanco
Team: Chelsea FC
Date of birth: 28.08.1989
Place of birth: Pamplona
Age: 24
Height: 1,78
Nationality: Spain
Position: Defence - Right-Back
Foot: Right
Market value: 18.000.000

Phil Jones
Team: Manchester United
Date of birth: 21.02.1992
Place of birth: Preston
Age: 21
Height: 1,85
Nationality: England
Position: Defence - Centre Back
Foot: Right
Market value: 18.000.000

Rafael Varane
Team: Real Madrid CF
Date of birth: 25.04.1993
Place of birth: Lille
Age: 20
Height: 1,91
Nationality: France, Martinique
Position: Defence - Centre Back
Foot: right
Market value: 24.000.000
