Early in the derby between Liverpool and Everton, Belgian star Romelu Lukaku was taken off after a slip form Gerrard clipped Lukaku's ankle. Later it was reported that he has in fact suffered an ankle injury.

In his place, Naismith was subbed on. Fantasy owners with dreams of adding Mata to their squads will need to hold off, as they look to replace Lukaku. There are many viable options, but none on Everton should be considered. Everton's most reliable attackers, Baines and Coleman, are not options up front.

Outside of Goodison Park and the rosters of fantasy owners, there are effects to be felt on the Belgium team. Lukaku, if he cannot get back in form before the World Cup, will see Benteke take his spot on the field, but suddenly the depth of a good dark horse team will take a heavy hit. Lukaku brings a lot of strength to the Belgians. He brings even more to Everton. His absence will be felt.
