The 20th Fifa World Cup is getting closer as we all wait patiently to see the worlds best players step up and look to shine on the world stage of football. So lets continue our look at the teams from Groups D & E.
The Group Of Death!
Group D consists of Italy, England, Uruguay and Costa Rica
Easily the toughest group of them all and definitely is 'Group of Death' of this championship. Lets start with Italy, the Azzurri and four time World Cup champions. Italy have a strong squad going into the Cup and will look to try and repeat their 2006 heroics that saw them lift the title in Germany. This time in Brazil they will look towards their Juventus connection to inspire their team towards victory. Buffon in goals, Pirlo in the midfield, both with a wealth of experience to offer. Then with the three Juventus defenders Chiellini, Bonucci and Barzagli. Remember that Juventus won the Serie A with a record 102 points. And lets not forget football's bad boy Balotelli up front... A very impressive team indeed.
Standing in their way is England. A team that has under-performed in so many trips to the World Cup and will be looking to lose their demons and finally get to lift the trophy that England has been dreaming about since 1966. Gerrard, Lampard, Rooney and Milner will look to lead the team from the midfield. While Lallana, Lambert and Sturridge will look to shine in their first World Cup appearances. The main weakness in England's team is their defensive line, the players are not too familiar with one another and this will cause them problems. Though the Liverpool trio could link up and cause some problems for their opposition.
Now Uruguay are the next team that are very strong and will look to continue their good form on the world stage. 2010 they made it to the semi finals and then followed up with a victory in the South American cup lifting the title in 2011. Luis Suarez will be the one looking to lead his team and continue his great form after finishing as England's PFA player of the year. His supporting cast of Lugano, Caceras and Forlan will also look to help their team progress on the world stage. Though you have to say that the Atletico Madrid trio of Godin, Gimenez and Rodriguez will also be on the hunt to continue their fine form, that saw them lift the La Liga title and finish runners up in the Champions League too. Costa Rica are the ones that will struggle in this group. They will be up against three very determined sides and will be lucky to gain any points in their attempt to progress. Finishing second in their qualifying group to get to the World Cup they did have impressive displays against Mexico but with only Pinto to lead the team will struggle against these three giants.
My predictions are 1.Uruguay 2. England 3.Italy 4. Costa Rica...though 1.2.3 could be either of the big three...
Group E consists of Honduras, France, Ecuador and Switzerland
Looking at the group it is hard to see France not advancing first. With players in defence such as Evra, Sakho, Koscielny and Sagna will be hard to beat. Then a strike force of Benzema, Giroud, Remy and Ribery will be very hard to stop for any defence. Then Pogba and Cabaye in the centre of the pitch. Well a very strong side that the other teams will be overwhelmed by. Ecuador will look to push for the second spot and will look to Valencia to lead the way. Though after a very disappointing season with Manchester United I believe they will struggle. Honduras finished third in their qualifying group and will look to Rory Martinez up front to lead the way, while Soke City's Palacios will also be looking to lead his team to the next stages of the Cup. Switzerland will be the surprise team of this group and I believe will cause some upsets too. Behrami and Shaqiri will be the players to watch for and lets not forget Senderos and Lichtsteiner who will be a force in the defensive line too.
My predictions are 1. France 2. Switzerland 3. Ecuador 4. Honduras
Ciao for now readers
