The New England Patriots may be without WR Danny Amendola for the next 2-6 weeks. ESPN’s Mike Reiss first floated the idea out that he could be sidelined until their Week 4 matchup, and NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport followed that up with a potential 2-6 week timetable.

Amendola aggravated his groin injury in the second quarter of New England’s opener against the Buffalo Bills. While he managed to return to the game and make some key plays to help the team win the game, it was a costly maneuver.

The Patriots knew what they were getting when they signed Amendola to a five-year, $31 million contract in the offseason. He’s been injury prone throughout his short career, and a change of scenery does little to alter that.

Amendola missed 22-of-64 total games in his four seasons with the St. Louis Rams, and that trend is likely to continue in New England. He already missed their game against the New York Jets, and it appears that his status is up in the air as the team prepares to face off against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 3. They can only hope he beats that 2-6 week timetable as they face off against the Atlanta Falcons in Week 4, the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 5 and the New Orleans Saints in Week 6.
