Danny Etling is a quarterback for the Purdue University Boilermakers of the Big Ten Conference. He was thrust into the starting job as a true freshman in 2013 after incumbent Rob Henry struggled to begin the year.
Rivals.com ranked Etling as a four-star prospect and the number-nine pro-style quarterback in the country coming out of South Vigo High School in Terre Haute, Indiana. He threw for more than 1,500 yards and tossed 11 touchdown passes during his senior year. Etling was one of 25 high school quarterbacks to earn an invitation to the Elite 11 finals in Redondo Beach, California. His cousin Joe Holland started at linebacker for Purdue from 2008-2011.
Etling was one of three quarterbacks to see action during his true freshman season of 2013. With the team down 27-10 against Northern Illinois in the fifth game of the season, Etling was put into the game for his collegiate debut. He ended up throwing for 241 yards in the game with a pair of touchdown passes and a pair of interceptions.
Etling’s performance in that game helped him earn his first collegiate start against the Nebraska the following week. On the season, he led the team in passing yards with 1,690 and touchdown passes with 10. Etling was picked off seven times and completed 55.8 percent of his passes. He also ran for one touchdown.
