Oakland Raiders RB Darren McFadden is officially listed as doubtful for the team’s Week 5 matchup against the division-rival San Diego Chargers, and he may be out of action until after their Week 7 bye.

Jerry McDonald of the Oakland Tribune estimates that McFadden will also be held out in Week 6 when they face the Kansas City Chiefs, and he’ll be eligible to return when they return from their bye in Week 8 when they play the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Rashad Jennings will get the call as the starting running back in Week 5 with Marcel Reece also nursing an injury, and he may continue to start until McFadden is able to return.

McFadden has been injury prone throughout his career, so him missing extended action is nothing new for the organization. While McFadden has all the talent in the world, he simply can’t stay healthy enough to make a lasting impact.

In a contract year, McFadden is playing for that big deal, and he bet big on himself by turning down the team’s overtures in the offseason. Unless he has a big second half, it could have been a big mistake on his part.
