After a solid 2013 campaign at Texas Tech, Davis Webb served notice to the Big 12 with a huge performance in the 2013 spring game. With a year under his belt, Webb could be one of the best the Big 12 has to offer in 2014 – if he keeps the job.
A dual threat quarterback from Prosper High School in Texas, Webb threw for 2,658 yards and 23 touchdowns as a senior, then added another 589 rushing yards and 12 scores to his slate on the ground. He was a four-star prospect by ESPN and ranked as the 21st quarterback in the nation by Rivals, but the No. 3 ranked quarterback in the state of Texas as a senior.
As a true freshman in 2013, Webb started six of the nine games he played in, including five straight near the end of the season and the National University Holiday Bowl win over Arizona State. Along the way he threw for 2,718 yards and 20 scores on 226-of-361 passing (62.6 percent).
When it was over, Webb was named the Holiday Bowl MVP, a College Football News freshman All-American and tabbed to the Big 12 all-freshman team.
Webb led the Big 12 in total offense for a single game (478 at West Virginia) and led the league with four 400-yard passing performances. He set Big 12 freshman records for total offense in a single game (478), total plays in a game (75), 400-yard passing performances (four), single game passing yards (462 against West Virginia), passing attempts single game (71), passes completed in single game (45) and on and on.
In his bowl game, he hit 28-of-41 passes for 403 yards and four scores. In all, he had seven multi-touchdown outings and five games with more than 300 yards in passing.
