Devin Gardner is a quarterback for the University of Michigan Wolverines of the Big Ten Conference.

High School

Gardner was a Parade All-American at Inkster High School in Detroit. He also participated in the Under Armour All-American Game. He earned 1st Team All-State honors as a junior and a senior. Gardner threw for 1,930 yards and 15 touchdowns in 2009, his senior season. He also rushed for 991 yards and 12 TDs.

College

Gardner appeared in three games at quarterback in 2010 as a true freshman at Michigan before suffering a season-ending injury. He received a medical redshirt. His collegiate debut came against Connecticut and his first touchdown pass came against Bowling Green as Gardner found Jeremy Gallon for an 11-yard score. He also ran for a seven-yard touchdown in the game. Gardner appeared in nine games for the Wolverines in 2011. He threw for a total of 176 yards and one touchdown. Gardner scored the go-ahead rushing touchdown against Northwestern and ran for 39 yards against Minnesota.

He started the 2012 season as a wide receiver, catching 16 passes for 266 yards and four touchdowns. His first career touchdown reception came against Alabama. On November 3 he moved back to quarterback in a game against Minnesota. He threw for 234 yards and two touchdowns. His next two starts against Northwestern and Iowa both earned him Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week honors. He led the Wolverines to a dramatic win over the Wildcats by throwing for 286 yards and two touchdowns. Gardner also ran for two TD’s in the game. He topped that the very next week scoring six total touchdowns (three passing, three rushing) against the Hawkeyes. Gardner finished the season with 1,219 passing yards and 11 touchdowns. He ended up with seven rushing touchdowns as well.

In 2013, Gardner started 12 games at the quarterback position and was selected as an All-Big Ten Honorable Mention by the media. He was unable to participate in Michigan’s bowl game due to injury but threw for 451 yards and four touchdowns in his final game of the season against Ohio State. He also rushed for one TD against the Buckeyes.
