Bio

Doug Martin was born in Oakland, California on January 13, 1989. A running back for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, he is a one-time Pro Bowler, having earned selection after his rookie season. Prior to his career in the National Football League, he played college football for Boise State University.

Growing up, Martin went to St. Mary's High School in Stockton, California and became a star performer for the school's football team. In his junior year, he registered 1,950 rushing yards and 18 touchdowns and as a senior, he was named as the team's Most Valuable Player. Despite attracting the interest of Oregon State University and the University of California, Berkeley, Martin opted to spend his college years at Boise State University.

During his time with the Boise State Broncos, he received All-Western Athletic Conference honors in 2010 and was named first team All-Mountain West Conference the following year, as a senior. Martin was also voted as the Maaco Bowl Las Vegas MVP in 2011 and finshed his college career with a total of 43 rushing touchdowns; the third highest tally in the school's history.

With the 31st overall pick, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers selected Martin in the first round of the 2012 NFL Draft. After impressing with his preseason performances, he was named as the team's starting running back. Martin went on to enjoy an excellent rookie year, in which he managed to record 1,454 yards rushing and broke the franchise rookie record for single season rushing yards. His performance against the Oakland Raiders in week nine saw him rush for 251 yards off 25 carries and record four touchdowns and he was subsequently given the Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Week. At the end of the season, he was named to the PFW/PFWA All-Rookie Team and earned a trip to the Pro Bowl.

In early 2013, Martin was ranked at number 57 on the NFL Top 100 list. He went on to make a solid start to the 2013 season, but only managed to play six games before suffering a season-ending injury. As a result, he ended the year with just 456 rushing yards and was only able to manage one touchdown.
