Ed Reed Set To Return From PUP, May Play Ravens
By Allen Kim
Houston Texans S Ed Reed is going to be taken off the physically unable to perform (PUP) list this Saturday, and he’s set to practice with the team during opening week, according to Tania Ganguli of ESPN.
The fact that Reed will be avoiding the reserve/PUP list is great news for Houston. This means that Reed won’t be forced to miss the first six weeks of the 2013 season, and that he could be back as early as next week.
While a decision to play him in Week 1 on Monday Night Football against the San Diego Chargers has not yet been made, the team is expected to decide early next week. It’s looking more and more likely that he’ll be able to suit up against his old team, the Baltimore Ravens, on Sept. 22 in his old stomping grounds at M&T Bank Stadium.
"We're hoping to do some field drills Monday and Tuesday with our extra days with him, with [head athletic trainer Geoff Kaplan]," coach Gary Kubiak said. "We'll probably make a quick decision early in the week, Monday or Tuesday, on his availability for San Diego. We're sitting here hoping and we'll see how that goes."
It’s sure to be an emotional return for Reed, who has played all 11 seasons of his career up until this year in Baltimore ever since being drafted by them in the first round of the 2002 draft.
