Emmanuel Acho spent his first season with the Cleveland Browns, but a leg injury ended his rookie season early and he was traded to the Philadelphia Eagles on April 13, 2013 in exchange for Dion Lewis. The linebacker made his NFL debut on Oct. 27, 2013 on special teams with the Eagles. Acho played in six games and made four tackles.
Early Years & College
Acho was born in Dallas, Texas, on Nov. 10, 1990. Acho, who also lettered in basketball and track, played high school football at St. Mark’s School and helped lead the team to a 32-9 record in four seasons. After graduating, Acho attended the University of Texas, where he appeared in 48 games and recorded 280 tackles and eight sacks. Acho, who is of Nigerian descent, was also a first-team Academic All-Big 12 selection.
The Browns drafted Acho in the sixth round of the 2012 NFL draft (204th overall), but suffered a season-ending leg injury in training camp and never started a game for Cleveland.
The Eagles signed Acho to the practice squad on Dec. 18, 2013, but was cut following the preseason. After a brief stint on the Giants’ practice squad, he rejoined the Eagles prior to Week 8. Acho played in four games, making four tackles in a single game (Nov. 3, at Oakland) and evolved into a valuable special teams contributor. His older brother, Sam, plays linebacker for the Arizona Cardinals.
