Emmanuel Sanders is a wide receiver for the Denver Broncos. He previously played four seasons for the Pittsburgh Steelers and started three seasons as Southern Methodist University.
Early Years & College
Sanders was born in Bellville, TX on March 27, 1987. As a standout at Bellville High School, Sanders earned First-Team All-District honors as a running back, wide receiver, and safety. He was a four-year letterman in football, basketball, baseball, and track, and his versatility helped land him multiple scholarship offers. He chose to attend Southern Methodist, and after redshirting in 2005, he started his final three seasons with the Mustangs and was named to the All-Conference USA First Team in 2008 and 2009.
His professional stock increased dramatically after catching 98 passes for 1,339 yards and seven touchdowns during his senior season, and the Steelers selected Sanders during the third round of the 2010 NFL Draft with the 82nd pick. He didn’t see a ton of snaps as a rookie, but still managed to haul in 28 receptions for nearly 400 yards. He became a greater focal point for Pittsburgh’s offense in coming seasons, catching 44 passes for 626 yards during the 2012 campaign.
After setting career-highs in receptions and receiving yardage that season, Sanders became a restricted free agent and signed an offer sheet with the New England Patriots. The Steelers decided to match the offer sheet, and he became one of the Steelers primary weapons in 2013, grabbing 67 receptions for 740 yards and six touchdowns.
Following his best season yet, Sanders left Pittsburgh as an unrestricted free agent and agreed to terms with the Broncos on a three-year, $15 million contract.
