Bio

Eric Reid is a safety for the San Francisco 49ers. Before being selected in the first round of the 2013 NFL Draft, he was a First-Team All-Southeastern Conference selection and named to several All-American teams at Louisiana State University.

Early Years & College

Reid was born in Baton Rouge, LA on December 10, 1991 and attended Dutchtown High School in Geismar, LA from 2006-2009. He starred for the Griffins football team and played in the 2010 U.S. Army All-American game, eventually receiving a full scholarship to play for Les Miles at LSU. Though he only started three games as a freshman, he managed to finish the year with 32 tackles and two interceptions.

Reid became a full-time starter for the Tigers as a sophomore in 2011 and was named All-SEC second team and All-American second team by Rivals.com. As a junior the following season, he finished third on the team with 91 tackles and was a consensus First-Team All-American and First-Team All-SEC selection. He decided to skip his senior season and declared for the 2013 NFL Draft.

San Francisco 49ers

The San Francisco 49ers traded up to acquire the 18th overall pick of the 2013 NFL Draft from the Dallas Cowboys and selected Reid. He competed against veteran Craig Dahl during training camp and ended up winning the team’s starting free safety position. He battled multiple concussions over the course of the year, but he still played in all 16 games, making 77 tackles and four interceptions while also making his first Pro Bowl appearance.
