Falcons RB Steven Jackson Officially Out Week 3
By Allen Kim
The Atlanta Falcons have officially ruled out RB Steven Jackson for their Week 3 afternoon matchup against the Miami Dolphins, per D. Orlando Ledbetter of the Atlanta Journal Constitution.
Jackson pulled his quad muscle on an eight-yard touchdown catch on Sunday against the St. Louis Rams. He was replaced by a combination of Jacquizz Rodgers and Jason Snelling in the backfield.
“It's short term,” said coach Mike Smith. “Don't know if that's two or three weeks.”
While he hasn’t been officially ruled out for their Week 4 tilt against the New England Patriots on Sunday Night Football, Smith’s statement more or less confirms it. With their bye week falling on Week 6, Jackson could very well be held out in Week 5 as a precaution when they go up against the New York Jets on Monday Night Football. That would place his return in Week 7 when they go head-to-head with the division-rival Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The 30-year-old has dealt with his fair share of injuries, and since 2007, he’s missed a total of 10 games to various ailments. While they could certainly use his services against the Dolphins and Patriots, they would probably be better served making sure he’s back to full strength when they kick off a tough slate of games following their bye week.
