Expectations are high for the Hurricanes heading into the 2013 season. With the Nevin Schapiro saga set to end before August, possible penalties notwithstanding, Miami can finally focus on the field. The Hurricanes will get a stern test right away from a Gators squad that finished 2012 ranked in the top 10 of every poll and will certainly be there to start 2013.

This would be the kind of game in which having a home-field advantage would be helpful, as Gators quarterback Jeff Driskel’s performances down the stretch showed he might not be able to handle the tough environment, but alas, Sun Life does not produce that type of atmosphere. The Hurricanes’ defense is still inexperienced and Florida has come a long way under Will Muschamp.

This is a winnable game for Miami, but this is the same team that was embarrassed by Kansas State and Notre Dame a year ago.

Early prediction: Florida 34, Miami 27
