James Develin may not be a household name yet, but he has certainly been thrown into the spotlight for being the player who was released (Sept. 2) and re-signed to the New England Patriots just a few days later.

After majoring in engineering at Brown, the 6-3 fullback spent the 2011 season playing on the Cincinnati Bengals practice squad. Develin was released from the Bengals on Aug. 16, 2012.

Recognizing his talent, the Patriots took the opportunity to add Develin onto their practice squad for the 2012 season. Advancing onto the 53–man roster, Develin took the field with the Patriots on December 16 against the San Francisco 49ers.

During the 2013 pre-season game against the Detroit Lions, the 25-year-old successfully completed a pass from second-string quarterback Ryan Mallett and ran the ball in for a touchdown.

What the future holds for this up-and-comer no one can say for sure. For the meantime, Develin gets the pleasure of wearing the No. 46 jersey on his back and gets to walk out onto the field with the New England Patriots.
