Bio

Hugo Lloris was born in Nice, France on 26 December 1986. Widely regarded as one of the best goalkeepers in the world, he is known for his excellent agility, quick reflexes and good judgement. Lloris is also extremely quick off his line and good with his feet, which enables him to function in a makeshift sweeper role, behind his team's defence.

Lloris joined OGC Nice's youth academy in 1997, at the age of 10. After working his way up the ranks, he began to play for the club's 'B' team in 2004 and made his debut for the first team a year later, keeping a clean sheet in a Coupe de la Ligue match against Châteauroux. In March 2006, he made his league debut and kept another clean sheet, before establishing himself as the first choice goalkeeper during the 2006-07 campaign.

Following another solid season in 2007-08, Lloris attracted the attention of AC Milan and Lyon and eventually opted to join Lyon during the summer of 2008, replacing the departing Grégory Coupet. Over the course of the next few seasons, he emerged as one of Europe's biggest goalkeeping prospects, being named the Ligue 1 Goalkeeper of the Year for the 2008–09, 2009–10 and 2011–12 seasons. In 2011-12, Lloris also collected his first major honour as a player, the Coupe de France.

During the summer transfer window of 2012, Lloris signed for Tottenham Hotspur, citing a desire to play abroad. He quickly replaced Brad Friedel as the club's number one goalkeeper, ending Friedel's run of 310 consecutive Premier League games in the process. Throughout the 2012-13 season, Lloris played a total of 33 games in all competitions and received widespread praise for his performances. His good form continued into the 2013-14 campaign, where he was once again praised by many observers as one of the league's best goalkeepers.

On the international stage, Lloris helped France to win the UEFA European Under-19 Football Championship in 2005, before making his debut for the senior national team in 2008. He has since established himself as the country's number one goalkeeper and has competed in several major tournaments. Prior to the start of UEFA Euro 2012, he was named by manager Laurent Blanc as the national team's captain.
