Every single game in a NFL season is important, especially division ones.

In some years, non-division games carry a lot of weight, too. Here’s a look at four key, non-divisional matchups for the Chargers in 2013:

OK, so the last four Super Bowl winners have all beaten the Eagles in their home opener of their championship season. The Chargers will try to make it five this year. Aside from pure coincidence, this Week 2 matchup bears little weight in predicting the Chargers’ season. However, a win here is critical for two reasons. One, if the Chargers lose the season opener against the Texans on Monday night, it will be even more imperative to get a win in Philadelphia and avoid starting 0-2 (remember, the Bolts have new coach and a lot of new faces). Two, if the Chargers happen beat the Texans in their opener, then a win on the road in a tough environment would boost San Diego’s confidence even more at this early stage in the season.
