Knowshon Moreno Starts At Tailback For Broncos
By Allen Kim
Much to the chagrin of Montee Ball fantasy football owners everywhere, Knowshon Moreno got the start at running back for the Denver Broncos. Even worse is that he dominated the touches for the night, racking up more carries than both Ball and Ronnie Hillman throughout the game.
Moreno finished the night with nine carries for 28 rushing yards and three receptions for 37 receiving yards. Ball, in comparison, had eight carries for 24 rushing yards and no receptions. Hillman had the least amount of touches with four carries for 15 yards and two receptions for 27 yards.
It’s clear that coach John Fox trusts Moreno more in the backfield with Peyton Manning, and it appears that there are still some trust issues in terms of blocking with the inexperienced Ball and Hillman. Moreno showed the coaching staff in the playoffs last season that he’s still a very effective player, and that trust has earned him a larger role.
More than anything else, it appears that the Broncos are going to rely on the aerial attack to move the chains. With Demaryius Thomas, Wes Welker, Eric Decker and Julius Thomas as Manning’s receiving options, it’s hard to blame Fox for focusing on the pass.
