Lions' Calvin Johnson Week 6 Status In Question
By Allen Kim
Calvin Johnson burned a few oblivious fantasy owners last week when he was a surprise scratch just hours before the Detroit Lions kicked off against the Green Bay Packers, and it appears that he could very well sit out again this Sunday when they face off against the Cleveland Browns.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported earlier that Johnson has swelling in his knee and is headed for a game-time decision.
Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reported that Johnson was limited to position drills while wearing a brace on his right knee in practice today. Johnson apparently feels good, and he did say that he was “real close” to playing last week against the Packers. While there’s some reason for optimism, we won’t know have a concrete idea of his playing status until Sunday.
“It’s just going to depend on how he feels when we get to game day,” coach Jim Schwartz said. “When we make those determinations, we don’t make them on Wednesday or Thursday or even Fridays. He had a bunch of times last year where he didn’t practice at all and went out and played on Sunday, and last week, he practiced on a Friday and wasn’t able to go out there on Sunday, so we’ll just take it as it comes.”
