Falcons name Dennis Slutak director of football operations
Bowling Green State University head football coach Dave Clawson announced the addition of Dennis Slutak to his coaching staff. Slutak will serve as the director of football operations.
Slutak brings seven years of football operations experience to BGSU, spending three seasons at the University of Washington (2009-2011) as the assistant AD for football operations and another four years at the University of Southern California (2005-2008) as the director of football operations.
A native of West Palm Beach, Fla., he was a punter at Florida State, earning his bachelor’s degree there and his master’s from North Carolina State.
Archie Collins hired as cornerbacks coach at Central Michigan
Archie Collins, a former defensive graduate assistant at Michigan State, has been hired to coach Central Michigan cornerbacks, CMU head coach Dan Enos has announced.
On Michigan State head coach Mark Dantonioʼs staff since 2010, Collins assisted with coaching the defensive backs and special teams and with recruiting. While at Michigan State, working under defensive backs coach Harlon Barnett, he helped six Spartans earn 10 all-conference honors and contributed to a Big Ten Championship in 2010.
Prior to his stint at Michigan State, Collins coached in the Detroit Public School League for seven years. Nine of his players earned all-state honors while 28 received all-city recognition.
Starting in 2006, Collins held the position of defensive coordinator and defensive backs coach for Southeastern High School for three years, helping the Jugaleers capture back-to-back district and division championships in 2008-09.
Mike Neu, Blaine Bishop named spring game honorary coaches at Ball State
Ball State head football coach Pete Lembo announced football alums Blaine Bishop and Mike Neu will serve as honorary coaches for the April 20 spring game.
Bishop, who lettered for the Cardinals from 1990-92 as a defensive back, went on to play 10 years in the National Football League and was a four-time Pro Bowl selection. A member the Ball State Athletics Hall of Fame, Bishop captained the Cardinals during his senior season in 1992, finishing his collegiate career with an appearance in the annual Blue-Gray All-Star Classic.
Neu lettered at quarterback for Ball State from 1990-93 and led the Cardinals to the 1993 MAC Championship and a berth in the Las Vegas Bowl. The 1993 MAC Most Valuable Player and Offensive Player of the Year, Neu completed his career as Ball State's all-time leader with 6,221 passing yards and 43 touchdown passes. He played professionally in the Canadian Football League and Arena Football League before beginning a coaching career. This past season, Neu returned to the college ranks as the quarterbacks coach for the Tulane Green Wave.
Bowling Green DE Shaq Hall dismissed from team
Bowling Green State University head football coach Dave Clawson announced that Shaq Hall has been dismissed from the team for a violation of team rules.
Hall, a 6-3, 256-pound redshirt sophomore from Naples, Fla., saw action in three games (Rhode Island, Akron, Miami) during the 2012 season.
