Bio

Matthew Garrett Forté, usually known as Matt Forté, was born in Lake Charles, Louisiana on December 10, 1985. A running back for the Chicago Bears, he is one of the greatest rushers in franchise history, in terms of career rushing yards. Forté has been named to the Pro Bowl on two occasions during his career so far, and was a finalist for the FedEx Ground Player of the Year Award at the conclusion of the 2013 season.

Forté played football for Slidell High School and graduated in 2004, choosing to attend Tulane University. During his college football career, he was twice named All-Conference USA and was named third team All-American in 2007. The 2007 season also saw him become a semi finalist for the Maxwell Award and the Doak Walker Award. In addition, Forté attracted significant attention for his performance in the 2008 Senior Bowl, where he was named as the game's Most Valuable Player.

After his senior year, Forté became eligible for the 2008 NFL Draft and was eventually chosen in the second round, as the 44th overall selection, by the Chicago Bears. As a rookie, he rushed for over 1,000 yards and ended the year ahead of all of the other rookie running backs in the league for total yards and receptions. His performances saw him place fourth in the voting for the NFL Rookie of the Year Award.

Over subsequent years, Forté further established himself in the team. He was voted as the NFC Offensive Player of the Week during week one of the 2010 season and was named to the Pro Bowl for the first time at the end of the 2011 season, becoming the first Bears running back to receive that honor for 20 years.

In 2013, Forté ranked second in the league for rushing yards, with 1,339, and was inside the top five in the NFL for all-purpose yards. Over the course of the season, he overtook Neal Anderson for career rushing yards, becoming the number two rusher in Chicago Bears history. His efforts for the season were rewarded with the second Pro Bowl selection of his career.
