Michael Floyd is a wide receiver for the Arizona Cardinals. He previously played college football at the University of Notre Dame and was twice selected as Minnesota Player of the Year.
Floyd was born in St. Paul, MN on November 27, 1989 and played football at Cretin-Derham Hall High School. He caught 59 passes for 1,247 yards and 17 touchdowns as a senior en route to winning his second consecutive Minnesota Player of the Year award. Following the season, he earned USA High School All-American recognition and participated in the 2007 U.S. Army All-American Bowl. He was listed as the sixth best receiver by Rivals.com and chose to play college football at the University of Notre Dame.
University of Notre Dame
Floyd contributed for the Fighting Irish immediately, playing in 11 games as a true freshman and setting a freshman record with seven receiving touchdowns. Despite missing five games during his sophomore campaign with a fractured clavicle, he amassed nearly 800 receiving yards and scored nine touchdowns. He continued his incredible production with his first 1,000 yard season as a junior while catching 12 touchdown passes.
Floyd was suspended by the team indefinitely following a citation for drunk driving on March 20, 2011, and head coach Brian Kelly reinstated him shortly before fall practice started. He caught a school-record 100 receptions while also setting new records for career receptions, career 100 yard games, and receiving touchdowns.
With the 13th overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, the Arizona Cardinals selected Floyd to compliment star receiver Larry Fitzgerald. He didn’t see much action early in his rookie season, but he ended the year with 45 receptions for 562 yards and two touchdowns. He followed up his first season with a breakout sophomore campaign in which he caught 65 passes for 1,041 yards and five touchdowns.
