Bio

Michael Dwayne Vick was born in Newport News, Virginia on June 26, 1980. A quarterback for the New York Jets, over the course of his career he has also played for the Atlanta Falcons and the Philadelphia Eagles. In total, Vick has been selected to four Pro Bowls and holds the NFL's all-time quarterback rushing record.

After attending Homer L. Ferguson High School and Warwick High School, Vick chose to play college football for Virginia Tech. As a freshman, he came third in the voting for the Heisman Trophy. He was named as the Big East Conference's Rookie of the Year and Offensive Player of the Year for 1999 and also won the Archie Griffin Award. In 2000, he received the Best College Football Player ESPY Award.

During the 2001 NFL Draft, Vick was drafted as the first overall pick by the Atlanta Falcons, becoming the first African American quarterback to ever be selected first. Over the course of six seasons with the team, he was able to lead the team to two playoffs and was named to the Pro Bowl at the end of the 2002, 2004 and 2005 seasons. In 2006, he became the first NFL quarterback to rush for more than 1,000 yards in a season.

However, his career came under threat in 2007, after Vick pleaded guilty to charges stemming from his involvement in an illegal dog fighting ring. He served a total of 21 months in prison and was suspended indefinitely by the NFL, missing the entire 2007 and 2008 NFL seasons as a result and losing many of his endorsement deals.

After being released by the Falcons, Vick signed for the Philadelphia Eagles in 2009 and was officially reinstated three weeks into the 2009 season. Having initially served as backup to Donovan McNabb, Vick became the Eagles' starting quarterback in 2010 and led the team to the NFC East Division Championship. He was subsequently voted the NFL Comeback Player of the Year and was named to the Pro Bowl for the fourth time in his career. In the years that followed, Vick faced intense pressure for his position as starting quarterback from Nick Foles.

In March 2014, after his contract with the Eagles expired, Vick signed for the New York Jets.
