MLS Wrap: Kansas City back on top of East

By Football News

Sporting Kansas City leapfrogged New York at the top of the MLS Eastern Conference with a 3-0 win over the New England Revolution.

Striker Kei Kamara got the first of his two goals in the 27th minute when he got up highest to head home from just inside the six-yard box.

He struck again just after the break in similar fashion as Soony Saad provided the cross and the Sierra Leonean once again placed a powerful header past Revolution goalkeeper Bobby Shuttleworth.

Things went from bad to worse for New England as Dimitry Imbongo was sent off for two yellow cards on 64 minutes and Andy Dorman was handed his marching orders late on for a bad tackle.

Sporting made the most of their two-man advantage in second-half stoppage time as Benny Feilhaber rounded out the victory with a curled free-kick.

The win propelled Sporting to first in their conference after New York's 2-0 defeat at Columbus Crew.

New York, missing former English Premier League stars Thierry Henry and Tim Cahill through injury, were shocked by Federico Higuain's second-half brace.

Real Salt Lake retained their five-point gap at the top of the Western Conference after a narrow 1-0 victory at home against Houston Dynamo.

Alvaro Saborio converted a 37th-minute penalty to seal the win and hold the second-placed Vancouver Whitecaps at bay after they triumphed 2-0 against the San Jose Earthquakes.

Second-half strikes from Camilo Sanvezzo and Kenny Miller were enough to wrap up the points.

Landon Donovan scored a hat-trick but it was not enough for the Los Angeles Galaxy as they drew 3-3 at FC Dallas.

Matt Hedges and Blas Perez put Dallas ahead twice in the game but each time Donovan had the equaliser.

In the 82nd minute, Donovan hit his third goal to put Galaxy in the lead but Perez popped up on 86 minutes to ensure the points were shared.

In other results, the Seattle Sounders won 2-1 at Toronto, the Philadelphia Union overcome DC United 2-0, the Chicago Fire edged the Montreal Impact 2-1 and the points were shared in a 1-1 draw between Chivas USA and Colorado Rapids.
