Ranking the Mountain West Conference 1-12 through eight weeks of action:

1. Fresno State (6-0, 3-0 MWC)

Last Week: Beat visiting UNLV, 38-14

    This Week: at San Diego State, 7:30 p.m. PT

Quick Take: One of 10 FBS unbeatens, ’Dogs debut at No. 17 in inaugural 2013 BCS standings.

2. Boise State (5-2, 3-1)

Last Week: Downed visiting Nevada, 34-17

    This Week: at BYU, 6 p.m. MT (Friday)

Quick Take: With Joe Southwick’s season likely over after undergoing surgery for a broken ankle, junior Grant Hedrick brings a running threat to the BSU QB position.

3. Utah State (4-4, 3-1)

Last Week: Won at New Mexico, 45-10

    This Week: Bye

Quick Take: It’s a much-needed first week off in two months for the beat-up Aggies.

4. San Jose State (3-3, 2-1)

Last Week: Bye

    This Week:  vs. Wyoming, 4 p.m. PT

Quick Take: Spartans QB David Fales almost was a Cowboy, walking on and spending a month with the Wyoming squad in the summer of 2011 before leaving the program.

5. Wyoming (4-3, 2-1)

Last Week: Lost to visiting Colorado State, 52-22

    This Week: at San Jose State, 4 p.m. PT

Quick Take: Rushing D continues to be a burr under the Cowboys’ saddle as UW fell to 117th in the BCS after surrendering 290 yards in a surprising Border Beatdown loss to CSU.

6. San Diego State (3-3, 2-0)

Last Week: Bye

    This Week: vs. Fresno State, 7:30 p.m. PT

Quick Take: Aztecs have won nine straight conference games dating back to a 52-40 loss last season in Fresno to this week’s foe.

7. Nevada (3-4, 2-2)

Last Week: Lost at Boise State, 34-17

    This Week: vs. UNLV, 3 p.m. PT

Quick Take: Wolf Pack couldn’t hold an early lead in Boise and now are looking up at the Rebels in the MWC West Division entering this week’s battle for the Fremont Cannon.

8. Colorado State (3-4, 1-1)

Last Week: Walloped host Wyoming, 52-22

    This Week: at Hawaii, 6 p.m. HT

Quick Take: Was the convincing Border War win the breakthrough victory the Rams have been looking for? If so, they’ll overcome the long road trip and take care of business late Saturday night on the Islands.

9. UNLV (4-3, 2-1)

Last Week: Lost at Fresno State, 38-14

    This Week: at Nevada, 3 p.m. PT

Quick Take: Rebels could be thrown for a pre-game loss with all-time leading rusher Tim Cornett doubtful to play Saturday after suffering a right-knee injury in Fresno.

10. New Mexico (2-5, 0-3)

Last Week: Lost to visiting Utah State, 45-10

    This Week: Bye

Quick Take: Bye comes at right time for Lobos, who were outrushed 337-160 by USU and played three quarterbacks in the contest.

Quick Take: QB Karson Roberts will be able to start for the Falcons after using the bye week to overcome the concussion he suffered in AFA’s previous game against San Diego State.
