Preview: Flash vs. Breakers

(June 25, 2014) – Samantha Kerr and the Western New York Flash take on Jazmine Reeves and the Boston Breakers on Friday night.
Kerr and the Flash come into the weekend in sixth in the standings, three points out of an NWSL playoff spot following their 2-1 loss at home to Seattle Reign FC in Week 11.
The Australia international scored the lone goal of the match for Western New York when she headed in from six yards out off a corner kick in the 61st minute to give her side a 1-0 lead.
The goal was the fifth of the season for Kerr, tied for the fifth most in the NWSL. Midfielder and Spain international Vicky Losada delivered the corner into the box and recorded her league-leading fifth assist on the play.
The game Friday night will be the third in a four-game home stand for the Flash, who are 3-2-1 at Sahlen’s Stadium this season but have lost two of their last three at home.
The Breakers come into the contest in last place, but having taken four points from their last three games following a 1-1 draw on the road against Sky Blue FC in Week 11.
Reeves, who the Breakers drafted in the third round of the 2014 NWSL Draft with the No. 21 overall selection, netted her fourth goal of the season to help the Breakers earn a share of the points against SBFC.
The Virginia Tech product is now tied with fellow forward Lianne Sanderson for the team lead in goals and is one of nine players Boston players who have an assist this season. No Breakers player has more than one assist.
The draw against Sky Blue FC was the first point the Breakers have taken in the travels this season. Boston, who is in the middle of a seven-game stretch away from home, is now 0-3-1 on the road this season and has been outscored 7-1 in those four games.
