Raiders Have "Definite Interest" In Josh Freeman
By Allen Kim
With Terrelle Pryor as their starter and Matt McGloin and Matt Flynn backing him up, it should come as no surprise that the Oakland Raiders have a “definite interest” in signing the recently released QB Josh Freeman. Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times reports that they’re moving slowly with all the misses they’ve had in recent years.
Raiders offensive coordinator Greg Olson spoke highly of Freeman the other day, and he worked with Freeman for three years in Tampa Bay. That familiarity would certainly speed up the process of getting Freeman up to speed on their playbook.
If Freeman is signed by the Raiders, they’ll have to release one of the three quarterbacks on the roster. Pryor more or less has a roster spot locked up after showing some potential, and Flynn is owed a guaranteed $6.5 million this year. That would likely leave McGloin as the odd man out even though he moved ahead of Flynn on the depth chart.
Although, even if the Raiders offer Freeman a deal, the question becomes whether he’ll even accept it. The Raiders are in shambles right now, and it’s not exactly a good situation to come into.
