A source tells the New Orleans Times-Picayune that linebacker Victor Butler tore his ACL during Tuesday’s voluntary team workout.

The source went on to say that Butler is likely headed to the injured reserve list and will have surgery as soon as the swelling in the knee has diminished.

Butler signed a two-year $3 million deal with the Saints back in March. Half of that money is guaranteed.

The fifth-year man out of Oregon State spent the previous four seasons with the Dallas Cowboys. He missed only one game during that time.

In 65 career NFL games, Butler has accumulated 89 combined tackles, 11 sacks, five forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries.
