While it only seems that Sean Mannion has been at Oregon State forever, the truth is the four years have gone quickly.
A three-year starter at Foothill High School in the Bay Area, Mannion entered Oregon State as the 14th ranked pro style quarterback in the nation after a prep career that saw him throw for more than 3,500 yards and 27 touchdowns as a senior.
After redshirting in 2010, it didn’t take him long to begin his Beaver quarterback legacy in 2011, starting 10 of 12 games as a redshirt freshman, throwing for 3,300 yards and 16 scores. A quarterback battle erupted in 2012 and Mannion’s playing time and performance suffered. He put together a 2,446-yard, 18 touchdown season, but things were about to get interesting.
Solidly the starter entering 2013, Mannion blistered the schedule, dropping more than 4,600 yards (second in the nation) and 37 touchdowns (fourth in the nation) on opponents. He set Pac-12 record with 4,662 passing yards, finished tied for third in Pac-12 single season history, and set OSU record with his 37 touchdown passes. He also set OSU single season records with 400 completions and 603 pass attempts and has been named the Manning Award recipient four times and was the Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week twice in 2013.
Mannion is a perfect fit for coach Mike Riley’s pro-style offense and owns 11 OSU records and is on the verge of setting every passing record Oregon State tracks.
