Bio

Sergio Ramos García, usually known more simply as Sergio Ramos, was born in Camas, Seville on 30 March 1986. Primarily a central defender, he is equally capable of operating as a right back and is considered by many people to be one of the best defenders in the world. On occasion, he has also demonstrated even greater versatility by occupying a defensive midfield role.

Ramos began his career with Sevilla, joining their youth academy in 1996 and gradually working his way through the ranks and into the senior team. He made his first team debut for Sevilla in February 2004 in a La Liga match against Deportivo de La Coruña. During the 2004-05 season, Ramos was able to cement his place in the team, making a total of 41 appearances in all competitions and helping the club to qualify for the following season's UEFA Cup. His performances over the campaign saw him named as La Liga's Breakthrough Player of the Year.

Prior to the 2005-06 season, Ramos moved to Real Madrid for a fee of €27 million. Since arriving at the club, he has further enhanced his reputation and has helped them to win La Liga titles in 2006–07, 2007–08 and 2011–12, as well as the Copa del Rey in 2010-11. In both 2012 and 2013 he was voted as La Liga's Best Defender, while in 2008, 2012 and 2013 he was selected for the UEFA Team of the Year.

At international level, Ramos has enjoyed huge success, playing an important role for Spain a they won the 2010 FIFA World Cup, as well as the 2008 and 2012 European Championships. He was named in the Team of the Tournament for both the 2010 World Cup and Euro 2012. In 2013, he earned his 100th cap for Spain and became the youngest European player to ever reach 100 caps in the process.
