Recently I got another opportunity to talk with Sporting KC. This time around I wanted to discuss the Seattle matchup and their upcoming game against FC Dallas. I asked starting goalkeeper Eric Kronberg if he thought Seattle would be the best squad they faced in the MLS.

“Seattle is a dangerous squad with a lot of attacking weapons,” Kronberg stated. “A lot of teams in MLS have made additions in the offseason, though, so it's tough to say if this is the best attacking squad we will face all year.”

With players like Will Bruin of the Houston Dynamo and Kenny Miller of Vancouver exploding early this season, it's a valid point. Kronberg though, would be the best keeper to handle any threat the MLS can throw at him. After the CONCACAF match against, Kronberg maintained 0.20 goal allowed in Champions League play.

I asked head coach Peter Vermes on what he thought about the Seattle game as a whole and this is what he told me.

"I thought we played very well. Coming in here, this is not an easy place to play being the first game of the season and their home opener. I thought we played very well for 93 minutes and 43 seconds. We did a really good job on both sides. Defensively we were very disciplined. We had one lapse in our defensive shape overall, and that was in the last 17 seconds. It's unfortunate. We probably should've gotten a lot more coming out of this game because we had some really good chances as well, but that's the way it goes. We've had this happen to us before. Four times. It is what it is. We always do a good job of rebounding and we'll do the same thing again."

A tough loss like that can really mess with a team's morale, especially in the season opener. I asked team captain Matt Besler if the team was demoralized and was assured they weren't.

“No, it did not. The result was unfortunate, especially with the way that it happened in the last minute of the game. But, in the big picture, I thought the overall performance is something we can build on. The guys are disappointed because we know we deserved and worked hard for a point, but it's just one game in the season and we have a long way to go.

Of course the big question is the upcoming game against at FC Dallas. This is Sporting's home opener and presents a chance to ride the wave of momentum from the win over Mexican side Cruz Azul.

“It's going to be our regular season home opener,” Besler stated. “We are going to play with a lot of energy, play our style and hopefully get our first win of the season.”

With Dallas coming off of a 3-2 thriller over Montreal Impact and Sporting riding high from Wednesday, look for an exciting matchup. Sporting may be without defender Chance Myers and midfielder Paulo Nagamura, and defender Seth Sinovic is also questionable.
