Steelers name Issac Redman Week 1 Starter
By Philip Botti
Days after cutting last seasons leading rusher Jonathan Dwyer, Mike Tomlin announced that Isaac Redman will be the starting running back for Sundays season opener. According the Steelers website, Tomlin expects Redman to carry the load and has yet to decide what the rotation will be for the ball carriers still on the roster.
Redman shared the ball with Dywer last year, and gained 410 yards on 110 carries scoring 2 touchdowns on the ground. With rookie 2nd round pick Le’Von Bell still out of action with a mid-foot sprain, LaRod Stephens-Howling and newly acquired Felix Jones will become the two other rushers looking to get touches on the ball early in the season.
Tomlin showed confidence that Redman is healthy and will do a good job carrying the ball. Redman has played significant time for the team, and seems to be the only healthy running back on the roster that deserves the start. The argument can be made for former Cowboy Felix Jones to get a decent amount of touches. Jones was picked up the last week of the preseason in a trade with the Philadelphia Eagles.
