Texans LB Cushing Out For The Year
By Allen Kim
Houston Texans LB Brian Cushing is going to miss the rest of the 2013 NFL season with a torn left LCL and fractured fibula. This is the second consecutive major injury to his left knee, and that knee is going to be under heavy scrutiny over the coming months.
Cushing went down when a cut block by Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles sent him to the ground in pain midway through the third quarter. He was able to limp off the field, but a cart had to take him to the locker room for further examinations. He would end the game with four tackles and a pass defensed.
Cushing is lucky that he was able to secure a six-year, $55.6 million extension with $21 million in guaranteed money before the start of the season. However, he still has a long road ahead of him before he's healthy once again.
He'll end the year with 48 tackles, 1.5 sacks, two forced fumbles and an interception. His presence will be sorely missed on defense, and things are about to get a lot tougher for a Texans team mired in a slump.
