BYU established its strength right out of the gate, upending No. 3 Oklahoma, 14-13, in the season-opening Cowboys Classic, the first college game played at Cowboys Stadium. The Cougars’ only losses were to Florida State (54-28) and No. 7/10 TCU (38-7), but they finished second-highest among the four ranked/receiving-votes teams in the MWC.
