Record: 12-2, 7-0 to win MWC

Final Coaches’/AP poll ranks: 24/25

Postseason: Lost to Louisville, 28-10, in Liberty Bowl

It was the first season following the retirement of legendary coach LaVell Edwards, but these Cougars truly were an offensive juggernaut. Led by tailback Luke Staley, the MWC Offensive Player of the Year, and senior QB Brandon Doman, BYU set MWC single-season records for total points scored (618) and total yards gained (7,057) that still stand 12 years later. The only thing missing was a strong finish as the Cougars started 11-0 before dropping the regular-season finale in Hawaii (72-45) and the bowl game to No. 22/23 Louisville.
