On the strength of a smothering unit led by junior DE/MWC Defensive Player of the Year Jerry Hughes and senior LB Jason Phillips, these Horned Frogs still hold MWC single-season records for fewest total yards allowed in MWC play (2,831) and overall (147) and MWC (68) points surrendered. It took a pair of Top-10 teams — No. 2 Oklahoma (35-10) and No. 10/9 Utah (13-10) — to hand TCU its only losses, both on the road.
