Utes May Be Thirsting For DBs

The fear is that Utah's most inexperienced position this season -- defensive backs, excluding Eric Rowe -- will cause its players at the spot to find themselves all too often on the ground and eating a receiver's cleat. Nickelback is part of the general concern.

This one was a toss-up after the spring, when they reportedly played to a stand-off. Apparently Michael Walker (5-foot-9, 182 pounds) is OK as a free safety.

If Walker takes the job, at least Joseph Smith (5-foot-9, 189 pounds) may be an inspiration (as the Deseret News’ Brad Rock once suggested).

Walker has played in 33 games with two starts. Smith, a junior, played on the scout team in 2011 and in two games last season.
