Vilanova hails Barcelona's record season

By Football News

Tito Vilanova paid tribute to his Barcelona side after they beat Malaga to finish with a record haul of 100 points on Saturday.

The Liga champions equalled Real Madrid's points record and set their best-ever tally of 115 goals in a season with a convincing 4-1 win at Camp Nou.

David Villa, Cesc Fabregas, Martin Montoya and Andres Iniesta all scored for the hosts before Pedro Morales pulled one back for Malaga.

Vilanova says that despite missing out on the UEFA Champions League final, it has been a good season and Barca will look to do even better next term.

He said: "The truth is that we were eliminated from the semi-finals of the Champions League, but if we have to reach 100 points and score 115 goals to be happy, well then that's fine.

"With everything we've been through, this has been a very good season. If people are not happy, there will be more good times coming."

Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes was replaced by Jose Pinto for Saturday’s final league fixture, but Vilanova has denied that his decision was due to the Spaniard’s uncertain future at the club.

The 44-year-old added: "No we talked about it and decided he wasn't going to play instead of Pinto.

"I decided that once we won La Liga, I would share minutes among the players and that’s all it was."
