Bio

Vincent Jackson, sometimes known more simply as V.J., was born in Colorado Springs, Colorado on January 14, 1983. A wide receiver for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, he previously spent seven seasons with the San Diego Chargers and has been selected for the Pro Bowl on three occasions. Over the course of his career, Jackson has managed to eclipse 1,000 receiving yards in five different seasons.

During his youth, Jackson attended Widefield High School in his hometown, where he was a straight-A student. For his performances as a senior, he was named first team All-Conference and was named as an All-State Honorable Mention by Rocky Mountain News. Although not heavily recruited out of high school, he was offered a partial scholarship by the University of Northern Colorado, allowing him to play both football and basketball.

At college level, Jackson became a rare example of a true freshman who played for the Northern Colorado Bears. He went on to become the school's all-time record holder for receptions, receiving touchdowns, kick return yards, punt return yards, receiving yards in a single game and receiving yards in a single season.

Jackson became eligible for the 2005 NFL Draft after his senior year and was selected by the San Diego Chargers in the second round, as the 61st overall pick. Injuries hindered the beginning of his NFL career and he only appeared in eight games during his rookie season, starting none of them. However, he became a regular starter in 2007 and broke the 1,000 yards receiving mark for the first time in 2008. Jackson repeated the feat in 2009 and was rewarded with the first Pro Bowl selection of his career. In his final season with San Diego in 2011, he was again named to the Pro Bowl and recorded 1,106 receiving yards.

Following a contractual dispute, Jackson became a free agent and signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers ahead of the 2012 season. He finished the 2012 season with a career-best 1,384 receiving yards and earned the third Pro Bowl honor of his career. In 2013, he exceeded 1,000 receiving yards for the fifth time and managed 78 receptions; the highest tally of his career.
