Jeff ZeBriec of the Baltimore Sun reported earlier today that FB Vonta Leach was taking a physical at the Ravens’ facility, and the team confirmed the news shortly after that Leach re-signed with the Baltimore Ravens on a two-year contract.

This is great news for a Ravens offense still reeling from the loss of TE Dennis Pitta, who will miss the 2013 NFL season after an MRI revealed a fracture in his hip.

Of all the players on the roster, RB Ray Rice is undoubtedly the happiest to have Leach back on the team. Leach is widely considered to one of, if not the best fullback in the league. He should help clear up plenty of running lanes for an offense that will likely lean on Rice to carry a bigger load.

Leaks and reports have linked Leach to a number of teams ever since the Ravens cut him. Whether there was serious interest or Leach’s agent was just working overtime to earn that paycheck by drumming up interest is unknown. The Miami Dolphins and the New York Giants were allegedly his top suitors in free agency, but apparently neither team offered him a deal more enticing than what the Ravens put on the table.
