The New England Patriots have released guard Brian Waters making him a free agent.

Waters signed a two-year contract with the Patriots in 2011. Waters started at right guard during the entire 2011 season after center Dan Koppen had a season-ending injury in the regular season opener at Miami. Dan Connolly moved from right guard to center and Waters slid into the starting lineup. Waters earned a pro-bowl invitation for his strong play.

Following the 2011 season, Waters expressed interest in playing for a team closer to his home in Texas. The Patriots were reluctant to release him and Waters did not report to training camp in 2012. He was put on the reserve/did not report list at the conclusion of training camp. He did not report for the entire 2012 season.
