The Titans surprised many people yesterday with the signing of Ken Whisenhunt, but this is the best move for the franchise in many years.

Whisenhunt brings the pedigree of being able to help stumbling offenses find their swagger and teaching them how to keep it. Look no further than this last season. Phillip Rivers was coming off a terrible season and, within one year, Whisenhunt turned him into a top five quarterback. Whisenhunt was also a success with Ben Rothelisberger and rejuvenated Kurt Warner’s career.

If you didn’t catch the hint, I am saying that this move is incredible for Jake Locker.

Locker has the most to gain from this move and will truly have zero excuses if he can't put together a respectable campaign with Whisenhunt.  Locker was showing promise before he was sidelined with a Lisfrac injury, but should be ready for all team workouts of 2014. The Titans made this move to grab an established offensive mind that has previous Super Bowl caliber success. We will see if Locker is still the guy very early in the 2014 season.

Whisenhunt still has some questions to ask in the coming weeks. Look for former Buccaneers QB coach John McNulty or Colts QB coach Clyde Christensen to be the Titans next offensive coordinator even though Whisenhunt plans to call his own plays.. The defensive side is much more interesting with former Browns DC Ray Horton and Packers LB coach Winston Moss considered the top candidates. If Ray Horton does land the job, the Titans may be looking at a scheme change to the 2 gap 3-4 look.

Look for these announcements in the coming week, but make no mistake this is a great move for the Titans in the coming years.
