Who Will Take Derrick Henry’s Snaps?

Expect T.J. Yeldon to get a lot of goal-line opportunities like this one against Tennessee, but if Yeldon is getting a breather, Nick Saban might call on Altee Tenpenny. Photo by Kevin C. Cox/Getty Images.

Tenpenny has the best shot at taking the third share of snaps this year and possibly dethroning Drake. He has a bigger build than the other freshmen at 6-foot and 210 pounds. He is also a more powerful runner than the rest. Saban likes to give bigger backs most of the carries, relying on the quicker backs for a change of pace. With Yeldon entrenched, and the three other backs filling the same role, Tenpenny could find the field in short-yardage situations and other downs in which Yeldon is too tired to go.
