TUSCALOOSA, Alabama (Ticker) -- An undisclosed medical condition
has ended the career of Alabama senior linebacker Ezekial
Knight.
The school announced Wednesday that Knight has been medically
disqualified for the upcoming season.
"He has had extensive medical evaluations by numerous
physicians, all of which concluded that it was in his best
interest to no longer play football," Alabama coach Nick Saban
said.
Saban added that privacy laws prevented him from revealing
Knight's condition. According to a report on Tide Sports,
Knight was taken to a hospital after workouts on Monday, treated
and released. Last season, he underwent surgery to have a heart
murmur corrected.
Projected as Alabama's top linebacker, Knight played in all 13
games last season, starting 11. He was sixth on the team in
tackles with 64 and also had two interceptions, 11 stops for
losses and three sacks.
Knight's absence, combined with the graduation of Darren Mustin
and Keith Sanders, leaves sophomore Rolando McClain as Alabama's
lone returning starter at linebacker.
"Zeke is a fine young man and we appreciate all that he has done
for this program," Saban said. "Zeke did a great job for us a
starter last year and, more importantly, is on track to graduate
in August."
