Kai at Aina 6:00 pm EST
HONOLULU (Ticker) - The Aina (East) looks to extend its
five-game winning streak over the Kai (West)
on Saturday when the teams meet in the 62nd edition of the Hula
Bowl.
The longest-running sporting event in Hawaii, the Hula Bowl has
been considered a premier venue to launch professional careers
in the NFL.
The Aina will turn to coaches Jeff Jagodzinski (Boston College)
and Ron Zook (Illinois) to help it improve on its 16-11-1
overall record in this all-star game.
Among some of the more notable names hoping to improve their
draft stock on the Aina will be NCAA all-time leading scorer,
kicker Art Carmody (Louisville) and Andre Callendar (Boston
College), who collected 1709 total yards and 13 touchdowns in
his senior season.
Heading up the Kai will be Mike Riley (Oregon State) and Mike
Sanford (Nevada-Las Vegas). Among the players that will be
looking to impress is Riley's own running back Yvenson Bernard,
who capped off a fine career with the Beavers with 1214 rushing
yards and 13 TDs last season.
Receivers C.J. Hawthorne and Jason Rivers, two of the receivers
on the Warriors' very successful run-and-shoot attack will be
among five University of Hawaii players participating.
Aina cornerback Ramzee Robinson (Alabama) wrapped up an 18-10
comeback victory in last season's game when he returned a late
interception 44 yards for a touchdown.
