Cal WR Jackson to enter draft

editor1  |Jan 15,2008

BERKELEY, California (Ticker) -- University of California wide
receiver DeSean Jackson announced Tuesday that he will forgo his
senior season and enter the NFL draft.

Jackson, a preseason Heisman Trophy candidate, recorded a
career-best 65 catches for 762 yards and six touchdowns in 13
games.

Also an electrifying returner, Jackson returned a school record
and Pac-10 Conference-record six punts for touchdowns in his
three years at California.

Overall, the 6-2 Jackson ranks third all-time at Cal in
receiving yards (2,423) and receiving touchdowns (22). He has
28 career touchdowns in 36 games.

Jackson is considered a first-round talent, but may scare teams
because of character issues.

The speedy receiver was benched for the start of the Armed
Forces Bowl because of undisclosed rules violations. Jackson
came off the bench and caught five passes for 81 yards in a
42-36 win over Air Force on December 31.

One of Jackson's most memorable games came in the opener against
Tennessee when he recorded 143 yards on six touches - including
a 77-yard punt return for a TD. He torched Oregon for 11
catches and 161 yards and two TDs on September 29.
