Florida State LB Hayes enters draft

editor1  |Jan 09,2008

TALLAHASSEE, Florida (Ticker) -- Florida State linebacker Geno
Hayes announced Wednesday he will give up his final year of
eligibility to enter the NFL draft.

An Atlantic Coast Conference first-team pick in 2007, Hayes
ranked second on the Seminoles in tackles with 80 - 17 1/2
for losses.

"This has been the toughest decision I have ever had to make,"
he said. "I would like to think coach (Bobby) Bowden and coach
(Chuck) Amato and the rest of the coaching staff for giving me
all the tools I need to become a great football player."

Hayes, however, was involved in an off-the-field incident in
September, when he was tasered by police following an
altercation outside a bar.

"It didn't surpise me that Geno decided to go the NFL," Bowden
said. "I know he has the ability to play at that level."

His departure, however, is a blow for the Seminoles, who
finished 7-6 following a 35-28 loss to Kentucky in the Music
City Bowl.
