Former college football coach Pont dies

OXFORD, Ohio (Ticker) -- John Pont, who coached Indiana
University to its only Rose Bowl appearance in 1968, has died.
He was 80.

Pont, who also coached at Northwestern, Miami of Ohio and Yale,
died Tuesday at his home in Oxford, Ohio after a long battle
with cancer, according to Miami officials.

Pont coached at Indiana from 1965-72, posting a 31-51-1 record.
His best season with the Hoosiers came in 1967, when Indiana
finished 9-2 after losing to Southern California in the Rose
Bowl.

A former Miami of Ohio fullback who played under the legendary
Woody Hayes, Pont amassed a career record of 98-121-4 in parts
of 22 seasons.
