Holtz agrees to extension at East Carolina

GREENVILLE, North Carolina (Ticker) -- Skip Holtz, who has
guided East Carolina to consecutive winning seasons for the
first time in nearly a decade, has tentatively agreed to a
six-year contract extension.

The deal would keep Holtz under contract at East Carolina
through 2013. However, specific details of the contract, which
includes an incentive and bonus structure, cannot be formally
announced until final approval is granted by the university's
board of trustees.

The Pirates, who posted an 8-5 record last season, have recorded
back-to-back winning campaigns for the first time since 1999 and
2000.

"I'm honored and excited to have the opportunity to be the head
football coach at East Carolina," Holtz said. "I am certainly
proud of the improvement we have made as a program over the last
three years. I strongly believe we all share the common goal of
ECU successfully competing at college football's highest level."

Hired at the conclusion of the 2004 season, Holtz, 44, has a
three-year record of 20-17 at East Carolina, which won a
combined three games in the two seasons prior to his arrival.

Before taking the East Carolina job, Holtz spent six seasons as
an assistant at South Carolina. He also posted a five-year mark
of 38-23 at Connecticut from 1994-1998.
